It is true that bleach-based product can be used to clean many carpets. However, be warned – this is only true for carpets made of polypropylene! Do not use bleach on wool carpets and be careful using it on any carpets that are rich in colour. This is because bleach will generally lighten the colour, so you could end up damaging your carpet even further! The internet is littered with stories of how this can go wrong … perhaps not a risk worth taking!?
Our advice is simple – treat the carpet with water and a mild detergent solution (approx. one teaspoon of mild detergent to ½ pint of water). Blot the spill with a sponge and always work from the outside in. Blot the carpet dry after cleaning. Good luck!
